Can Bald Men Really Play Guitar?
August 2005

Hi everyone

That is, of course, assuming everyone is reading this... as the clock counter for my site approaches 1,000 hits I could assume most of them are from Mustangs followers semi interested in seeing what I get up to the rest of the time I'm not sweating my guts out with the boys... but the truth is probably that 95% of those hits are from me, checking back to see how many hits I've had. It's a virtuous circle, see?

It's been a quiet month gig-wise for The Band as we have been writing for the new CD - I can report back that we have half the album written and they are absolute corkers! Derek has pitched in with some classic Kingaby, Ben and I have managed to get a couple of good 'uns down together and Jon...well, Jon is still too busy writing worthwhile, intelligent stuff for newspapers and guest columns to write a simple blues song - but we are determined to get him to have a go...

I did a last-minute gig at the excellent Kolebka Bar in Southampton last week - it feels like the bar in Cheers in there - everyone is so friendly and welcoming - I half expect them all to shout 'Norm!' as I walk in, but that would be stupid as my name is Adam... a bit earlier the same night (!!) I played in Rogate for the lovely, hirsute Dave Bulbeck at his Rogate fete... quite a line up of talent pitched up to play and it once again reinforced my views that there is a vast mine of superb, undiscovered talent in this country... the great thing about the internet is that empowers and enables us all to have a platform for what we do, where anyone in the world can see, buy, read about and hear our music... the more we gig, the more people hear our music and learn about the site - another virtuous circle!... the Mustangs have sold CDs in Ghana and Finland, fercrissakes, so summat must be working.

On that topic, The Band now has two CDs in the CD-Wow unsigned Top 10 - at number 2 and 10, so we are hugely grateful to everyone who has bought a copy...

The teaching has slowed down a bit over the Summer what with holidays and all, but I am still keeping my hand in, with the knowledge that it will all kick off again come September... like the football used to until they made it a Summer sport...

... and little Alex keeps tickling me with his comments... on seeing a picture of a hairless man playing guitar in a booklet last week he stopped playing Baa Baa Black Sheep , looked at me with furrowed brow and asked... "can bald men really play the guitar... ?"

No they can't, Alex, I said shaking my head solmenly... no they can't.

Until next month...

Adam
