Crime Wave Hits Leafy Dulwich
May 2005

Hi

Thanks for popping in again. Let me start by saying by clearing one thing up - contrary to last month's comments my mother does NOT do my washing up for me - as a grown man I pride myself on my ability to use not only a washing machine, but other complicated household appliances such as video recorders and digital TV boxes. Well, maybe not the digital TV boxes just yet but I can certainly handle a video recorder.

April was a great month for The Mustangs - we upgraded all our sound equipment and did some great shows - Blues Corner cafe, the Heroes - and excitingly we rounded off the month at the Hackney Empire - a beautiful old fashioned theatre of a venue. We'd never played anywhere quite so grand before and the gig lived up to our expectations - the sound was awesome and I leaped around like a complete idiot for 30 exhausting minutes. It was great to have a few friends in the crowd too - a few of my younger guitar pupils, no less. I hope I passed the test for them or I could be out of a job.

On May 11th I am back at the Bedford in Balham doing a brief solo acoustic set in the Tavistock room. This is a very chilled, enjoyable night for anyone who hasn't been - the quality of acts is excellent... well worth popping in - not least 'cos it's free... On May 17th I am playing the Eastney Cellars in Portsmouth as part of their live music promotion festival - should be a good night.

Well, while it's been a good month musically, personally it's been a dog...I've been plagued by this latest chest bug the last few weeks - it won't leave me alone so I've been feeling a bit rough recently... one of my student's mums makes me manuca honey and hot water whenever I go there to teach. I pretend to her it works but the truth is it just tastes great and I look forward to it every early Saturday afternoon.

Worse than the bug though, is the crime wave hitting leafy Dulwich to which I have fallen victim... my car was broken into and I had a load of musical gear stolen. In broad daylight on a Sunday afternoon! A Sunday!! It's a disgrace... don't these poeple go to church? Ah well, it's the price of an education everyone tells me. I don't need an education I say, I just need my equipment back...

Check out the gig guide and come and see me soon. I'll be singing acapella in the corner of the pub awaiting the return of my guitar and amp...
